Design a Wedding Dress….

How strange it is to be in isolation and not in our beautiful boutique helping ladies find their dream dress. A lot of our brides have little ones to care for and we thought it would be a lovely idea to invite all the children to get creative a design a dress! We didn’t know how popular it would be but we were so impressed by the designs, we had children from age 3-13 enter and its so lovely to see what they came up with.

We offered a small cash prize to the winner and the runner up but we did not want to be the judges. Luckily we have some wonderful friends in the bridal world and asked Steve from the world renown designer Morilee to judge. Steve is the National Sales Manager so he sees all the new designs season after season so he really does know his stuff! We sent over all the entries today and he declared Daisy to receive 1st place. Daisy created a satin fitted gown with some sparkle detail, a key-hole back with buttons and a modest sized train. Steve mentioned how “on-trend” this style is and it did stand out as being quite different from the other designs. In second place was Imogen’s ballgown. From the photo it seems she has collaged pieces to her design to create a luxurious texture. Very fairytale!

When I (Gemma) was a little girl I used to LOVE designing dresses, there is something about wedding dresses that spark the imagination to go over the top with the best fabrics and the sparkliest details. Almost all of mine were humungous ballgowns with trains that were so long they would trail off the page. Not surprising that I ended up wearing a ballgown for my wedding. I feel like I would love to try on Imogen’s dress if it was made into a real dress and I feel like Daisy’s design could be a top seller if we had it in our shop, I think it has mass appeal for a bride who was body confident and has an eye for the details.

We had so many lovely entries and it has kept us smiling every time we received a new one, who knows, we may have some wedding dress designers of the future within our corner of the world.

We have asked for everyone to send the original designs in the post to our shop as we would love to display them in our workroom out the back to brighten up our walls whilst we prepare all the brides dresses. I wonder how many people will send them to us!

Thank you so much to everyone who entered, I think that Steve from Morilee had a very tough job on his hands! Well done to Daisy and Imogen, keep designing everyone and feel free to send us more photos for fun.

Lots of love from Gemma and Heather – Team Waterfields xx
